Guttate Psoriasis

What is Guttate Psoriasis?

Among the many forms psoriasis can take, guttate psoriasis is one of the more common. Guttate psoriasis often causes small groupings of tear-drop shaped areas of red, irritated skin with raised edges. Many people experience symptoms ranging from mild itchiness to more severe discomfort. Generally, the affected areas form in small groupings on the arms, legs, scalp, ears, and face in contrast to the larger, scaly areas of irritation found with plaque psoriasis. While people of all ages experience guttate psoriasis, it is more common among children and young adults. Unlike other forms of psoriasis, guttate psoriasis symptoms are generally easy to treat if addressed early. Read on to discover the stages of guttate psoriasis, common triggers to avoid, and how together we can help you and your family find relief.

Where to start?

You aren’t alone in dealing with the difficult effects of guttate psoriasis.  In fact, according to the National Psoriasis Foundation, more than eight million people have some form of psoriasis.  Fortunately, guttate psoriasis symptoms are non-threatening and can oftentimes be managed by balancing a healthy lifestyle with medicated and alternative treatment methods.

At Summers Laboratories, we’re committed to helping you and your family feel more comfortable and confident in your skin. We’ve found that the most successful treatment strategies are multi-faceted. By balancing a healthy diet, exercise, regular and appropriate skin care, along with medicated topical treatment of flare-ups, you too can find relief from irritated skin.

Guttate Psoriasis Stages

The symptoms of autoimmune diseases, such as psoriasis, often come in waves.  The symptoms of guttate psoriasis stages range from mild to severe. The severity of your symptoms may require different treatment methods to successfully relieve symptoms.

Mild Guttate Psoriasis

A few, small areas of skin are affected. Symptoms will generally include small red dots of irritated skin with raised edges. The irritated skin will likely be itchy and uncomfortable, and/or you may experience a mild burning sensation. Generally, a light treatment such as Keralyt, a medicated product, that can be used for guttate psoriasis can keep symptoms under control when supported by regular and appropriate skin care.

Moderate Guttate Psoriasis

Larger areas of irritated skin are found more frequently, oftentimes covering the majority of a limb. People will likely experience itchiness and a burning sensation around the affected areas. Use a medicated product for guttate psoriasis such as Keralyt Cream to calm the flare-up and provide comfort.

Severe Guttate Psoriasis

Small, tear-drop shaped irritations may span the majority of the body. As you might expect, severe irritations are more challenging to treat than mild symptoms. Successful treatment requires regular application of a medicated psoriasis cream, gel, or shampoo, such as Keralyt or Tarsum, depending on the affected area. Many people find that changing their diet, following a consistent and appropriate  skin care regimen, and avoiding triggers are all important aspects of treating severe guttate psoriasis. Using a medicated cream for guttate psoriasis such as Keralyt or Tarsum can be an important part of relieving symptom severity and creating comfort.
